• C-Telopeptide (Serum CTx): This test measures a fragment of type I collagen released into the bloodstream when bone is broken down. • Intact N-Terminal Propeptide of Type 1 Procollagen (P1NP): This test quantifies a byproduct released during the formation of type I collagen, which is a major component of bone. Traditional bone density scans show the amount of bone present, but they do not measure how actively bone is being broken down or rebuilt.
