Allergen Profile, Mold (IgE)
Diagnostic Lab Test:
- Allergen Profile, Mold (IgE)
The Allergen Profile, Mold (IgE) test measures the levels of Immunoglobulin E (IgE) antibodies specific to various mold allergens in the blood. IgE is an antibody produced by the immune system in response to exposure to allergens, including mold spores. When an individual with a mold allergy encounters mold spores, their immune system releases IgE antibodies to combat the perceived threat, leading to allergic reactions.
Elevated levels of mold-specific IgE indicate sensitization to one or more types of mold, which can result in allergic symptoms such as sneezing, nasal congestion, itchy or watery eyes, coughing, wheezing, and skin rashes. These symptoms are commonly associated with allergic rhinitis (hay fever), asthma, and other hypersensitivity conditions. Identifying specific mold allergens through this test helps healthcare providers accurately diagnose mold allergies, assess the severity of the allergic response, and develop personalized treatment plans.
