Allergen Profile, Dairy (IgE)
Diagnostic Blood Test:
- IgE Milk
- IgE Casein
- IgE Alpha Lactalbumin
- IgE Beta Lactoglobulin
- IgE Cheese, Cheddar Type
- IgE Cheese, Mold Type
The Allergen Profile, Dairy (IgE) test evaluates the presence of Immunoglobulin E (IgE) antibodies specific to various dairy-related allergens in the blood. This comprehensive panel includes tests for IgE antibodies against Milk, Casein, Alpha Lactalbumin, Beta Lactoglobulin, Cheddar & Mold Type Cheese. Detecting these IgE antibodies is essential for diagnosing and managing dairy allergies, which can manifest as a range of allergic reactions upon exposure to dairy products.
-
IgE Milk:
Measures IgE antibodies specific to milk proteins. Elevated IgE Milk levels indicate a sensitization to cow's milk, which can lead to allergic reactions such as hives, asthma, gastrointestinal distress, or, in severe cases, anaphylaxis upon ingestion or contact. -
IgE Casein:
Assesses IgE antibodies targeting casein, a major protein found in milk and dairy products. High IgE Casein levels suggest an allergy to casein, potentially causing symptoms like skin rashes, respiratory issues, or digestive problems after consuming dairy products containing casein. -
IgE Alpha Lactalbumin:
Detects IgE antibodies against alpha lactalbumin, a whey protein in milk. Increased IgE Alpha Lactalbumin levels are associated with allergic responses to whey proteins, leading to reactions such as itching, swelling, or gastrointestinal upset upon exposure to dairy. -
IgE Beta Lactoglobulin:
Evaluates IgE antibodies specific to beta lactoglobulin, another whey protein in milk. Elevated IgE Beta Lactoglobulin levels indicate an allergy to this protein, which can result in symptoms like nasal congestion, wheezing, or severe allergic reactions following dairy consumption. -
IgE Cheese, Cheddar Type:
Measures IgE antibodies against proteins found in cheddar cheese. High IgE levels for Cheddar Type Cheese suggest a specific allergy to cheddar, potentially causing allergic reactions such as digestive disturbances, skin irritation, or respiratory issues when consuming or being exposed to cheddar cheese. -
IgE Cheese, Mold Type:
Assesses IgE antibodies targeting proteins in mold-ripened cheeses, such as blue cheese or brie. Elevated IgE Cheese, Mold Type levels indicate a sensitivity to mold in cheese, which can lead to allergic symptoms like itching, swelling, or respiratory difficulties upon ingestion or contact with mold-containing cheeses.
