Lead toxicity is associated with fatigue, anemia, GI distress, convulsions, and coma. Exposure may occur due to interactions with exhaust fumes, lead-based paints, and batteries. In children lead exposure is common due to the prevalence of suckling on toys painted with lead-based paints.
Lead has a very long elimination half-life and accumulates in the body over years, some for a lifetime.
